A sort of word-of-the-day log of definitions of typical Chilean words and expressions as well as other words and expressions in Spanish.
The name of this blog comes from a t-shirt my folks bought in New York in 2003 as a joke for our Chilean exchange student. It had a picture of the Statue of Liberty and beneath that, it said "Welcome to America. Now speak English."
Feel free to correct my Spanish (as well as my English). I speak pretty well, but not perfectly.

This post wouldn't be in honor of what happened in the Chile-Uruguay game, would it?
hahaha. Stressful game to watch, but maybe this time Chile might make it to the World Cup!!!
Note that phys-ed teachers avoid pelota because it can mean testicle.
TV commentators say balón because they think it would be too tiresome if they only said pelota. Some of them even sometimes say la esférica: the spherical one.
Normal people never say balón.
